2011-09-15 Shark Remarks

Last night I had dinner with a real Russian family. It was very tasty. Super delicious food, my friend Cortney will be living with them for the rest of the semester. It was a great experience and makes me supremely jealous of all the students doing homestays. At least I’ll have a second semester to remedy that predicament. Essentially the entire experience will ensure that you use much more Russian than in a dormitory of international students. However there are still two main deterrants to the alternate living style. Cortney is living with a widow who’s two children have moved out and she has three cats. Which is such a perfect thing for her because Cortney loves cats, I on the other hand would prefer a bigger family and no cats.  The second problem is that during the winter (and possibly the spring) it will be very difficult to wake up and trudge across the city to get to class. To be inspired to wake up for class will be supremely difficult. I’m already having issues and I live unbearably close to the classrooms.

But as of now I’ve made up my mind, next semester I will try a homestay, mainly because of the potential Russian I will learn by living with someone who can’t speak English.
