2011-09-23 And A Spry Cook Is Born
I have been cooking more often than I have ever done before. It helps that the Russian mechanics came in the other day and fixed our stove so it could boil water. Which is thrilling. Yesterday I bought a dozen potatoes for 10 rubles, which is about 30 cents at the moment. I sliced and diced them myself like a pro, fried them, seasoned them and served them to my floor, who devoured them like the raptors they are.
Clearly I’m getting pretty darn good at this cooking thing. No recipes, no help, just winging things, and I have yet to do badly (knock on wood). So thank you father for the genes of being a good cook. Because it’s clearly genetic. And it’s a great way to make friends haha. French fries are universal through out all languages, the Finns, Germans and Slovaks were all interested in the smell emitting from my room.
Today I nailed schnitzels for dinner. Wonderful as per usual. Weird to be cooking so much, but I think this will be a useful talent in the future. Well today begins a hectic weekend. I may not be able to update for a few days due to my busy schedule. So don’t go calling the police in Russia requesting they chisel me out of the ice cube I turned into.
