2011-09-29 Honey I'm Home
Today was a rather tame day, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. With less than minimal functioning sleep last night and the bare minimum for the week before that I couldn’t have done much more. Had my classes than headed on over to the city center to put in a shift at the Hermitage. Instead of greetings or moving things they had me editing and translating articles for their paper. Which was different. I’m not sure if I liked it, but the chair I was sitting in was very comfortable. I felt very important since people walking by would say hello, but other than that and the dozen or so articles I went through it was pretty uneventful. However I did manage to accidentally do a four hour shift instead of the standard two, which is also great.
It seems to be a Saint Petersburg habit for couples, when one is waiting for the other to come home from work or anywhere, to wait at the top of the dreadfully long escalators in metro stations and simply loiter about until they arrive. This sounds somewhat odd, juvenile or even stupid, but it’s actually much more than that, it’s really pleasant. It almost makes every metro station more like an arrivals gate at an airport. Though it disappoints me that no one will likely ever be at the top of the escalators for me, it’s definitely smile worthy when you see a couple hug after a long day in the office.
Our new floor manager lady (there’s a word for her in Russian) has taken a liking to me, and she always says hi to me now. She also complimented my singing voice which I awkwardly shrugged off but she does help get requests to fix lights and other things in our room a bit quicker. So well done.
