After a bumbling confusing preparation to a Skype session, I finally had my first video chat with my parents. Yes… unfortunately it took me 5 months to do so but as that once bold sluggish man once said, “Better late than never!"
Last night I cooked a Sunday evening meal for my friend and I. What was suppose to be a dinner for two turned into a dinner for six, as I drastically miscalculated the size of the product of the ingredients I had bought. I have never been one for recipes. "Go off instinct and common sense,” I always say, along with, “It is in my blood… to be a cook.” All of you know how masterful my father is at the art, and so far I still only possess a fraction of his skill, yet perfectly maintaining his impromptu improvisation technique that we have come to appreciate with our stomachs.
My dormitory may not be a Russian one, but I have come to enjoy it for the diverse youthful culture it inspires. I have met more Africans and Europeans here than I have ever met in my entire life. I have made new friends all across these two continents and I find this entire experience to be… enlightening. A necessary lesson of a pretentious world traveler.
