2012-02-19 A Russian Souvenir
Today I went back to my favorite random market in Saint Petersburg, far off the beaten track and… well impulse bought the most ridiculous souvenir. As everyone knows I tend to buy Soviet military officer caps… I may have felt compelled due to the single digit Fahrenheit degree weather to purchase it. I bought a Soviet Russian officer’s overcoat. It is authentic, and the price was originally 1200 rubles, which I somehow argued down to 800 rubles through some difficult Russian dialogue with a more than pleasant shopkeep.
Now I own a ridiculously heavy jacket. Hmm… but I do not already own a overcoat/trench coat length jacket, so that is a plus. It is purchased at about $25, and after research online it is worth just about $200… not too shabby. It could use a stitch repair on the buttons, and I think my lovely mother will be able to help with that! I guess I have a Halloween costume now.
Last week in the dormitory, if people do not know me well yet, one must know that I struggle when it comes to packing. I do not like the act, nor do I do it well, I tend to get frustrated all due to the fact that my life simply gets stuffed into a suitcase and I move along. Always slightly depresses me. Oh well, I think I am just opposed to my new commute of an hour and change to get to school. Good night all…
