2012-02-29 A Sleap Full Stray
At a perfect angle, from the very bottom of the escalator, I admired up at the lengthy tunnel that leads away from the metro station platform. From that certain point right before my step rises in sync with the rest of the hundreds of its brethren, I saw what can only be described as a human canyon. The never ending cycle of heads lined in a pair of columns rising in front of me. If only I had a brilliant camera to capture the rare moment of this accidental human Russian valley.
A leap day! How infrequent? I wish I could say that I did something also atypical. Nothing of the sort. My teacher remarks how I get to experience Russia from a commuter’s point of view of rush hour. Aren’t I lucky? At least I like my family. They are nice and welcoming. The apartment cozy, and I think I am finally eating full (diverse) meals for the first time in Russia. Along with plenty of tea. There is always tea. Must be a Russian habit. Also without consistent internet access, this makes me a bit more cut off from the world, much like when I stopped having a phone.
I was asked about what I want to do after I finish University, and I guess it makes sense to do something with Russian. I am studying it, I am here, I am putting much effort into learning it… it’s only logical. Besides, when I get back home I will be able to declare it as my minor. Which I am thoroughly excited for.
